"Error encountered" message in the Windows Update screen
发布时间:2026-09-29 | 浏览:1
For some time now I keep seeing this error message in my Windows Update screen:
When I click "Retry," it eventually just loops back to this same screen. I've been hoping it would eventually resolve itself with each passing Windows update, but that doesn't seem to be happening. When I click on "View optional updates," here is what I see:
I have not yet tried installing any of these Optional updates, because I fear that that may really bugger things up. I've gone into the Device Manager and I'm not seeing any yellow yield signs indicating a driver needs updating:
And here is where my system version currently sits as of this morning on Nov. 14, 2020:
Does anyone have any ideas as to how I can resolve this issue of the "Error encountered" message? Will it eventually resolve itself with future Windows updates? I'm concerned that it may impeded future update installations?
Thank you in advance,

Hello Kristine,
Thank you for updating me that information. Kindly ignore the instructions about rolling back a driver. You will only perform that method if your system is experiencing any crashing or issues.
Kindly download the “Show or Hide Updates” troubleshooter on the link below. Run it, Click Next then select Hide Updates. Kindly select all the listed updates you will see. After you hide the updates. Restart your PC.

If the Windows update settings doesn't show the error message, the troubleshooter successfully hide the driver updates. Great, I am happy that worked. If you don't have any more concerns, feel free to mark one of the replies as helpful and have a moment to rate my support I’d appreciate it. This will help other people facing the same problem. You're very much welcome. Stay safe and have a great day! Sincerely John DeV Independent Advisor 0 comments No comments

Anonymous 2020-11-15T17:15:27+00:00 Hi John, I think this may have worked? What I can tell you is that under Windows Updates I am no longer getting the "Error encountered" message, however, per Microsoft's Troubleshooter, there seems to be one issue outstanding. The Troubleshooter says it's fixed, but it keeps finding it every time I run the Troubleshooter (see embedded image below). At any rate, I'll assume it's fixed until I run into issues with Windows Update again, I guess! Thank you very much for your help. Best, Kristine 0 comments No comments

Anonymous 2020-11-14T18:27:48+00:00 Hi John, Thank you for your reply. First, when I go to the link you sent, I believe I am to follow the instructions for windows 10 version 1607, however, when I went to check the version of Widows 10 that I have installed, it looks like version, "20H2." Can you look at the embedded screen capture below from my system and let me know if I've got that right or not? Secondly, with regards to Step 2, "Locate and right-click the device that has the problem driver installed, and then select Properties," how exactly does one deduce which driver is the problem? Per the screen capture of my device manager that I already embedded in my original post, there's no yellow yield signs indicating that any of the drivers installed on my computer, are giving issue. Thanks agian, Kristine 0 comments No comments
