Bing Visual Search lets you search with a picture instead of describing it in words. You can upload a file, paste an image URL, drag a picture into Bing, take a webcam photo, or search an image that is already open in Microsoft Edge. Depending on what is in the image, Bing may show visually similar pictures, products, recipes, pages using the same image, detected text, translations, or AI-generated answers. Treat those answers as useful leads rather than guaranteed identifications: Microsoft warns that its AI can make mistakes. Use Bing Visual Search on a computer The most direct route is Bing Images in a desktop browser. Open Bing Images , or go to Bing.com and select Images . Select the camera icon in the search box. Submit the image using one of the available options: Drag an image into the Visual Search box. Select upload an image and choose a file from your computer. Paste an image from the clipboard. Paste the image’s web address. Use the webcam to take a new photo. In the current Bing Images interface, the upload panel is labelled “Drag one or more images here, upload an image or open camera.” You can also use the field labelled “Paste image or URL.” The exact wording and layout can change by country, account, and browser version. Search an image already open in Microsoft Edge If the image is on a webpage, you do not need to save it first. Right-click the image in Edge. Select Visual Search . Review the results in the panel or page that opens. This option works even if Bing is not Edge’s default search engine. It is particularly handy for identifying a product in an online catalogue, finding visually similar artwork, or checking where a picture has been published. Use Visual Search on a phone You can use Bing Visual Search from a mobile browser, Microsoft Edge, or the Bing app. The controls differ slightly between Android, iPhone, markets, and app versions, but the available image sources generally include: A new photo taken with the phone’s camera. An image already saved on the device. A picture selected through the file browser. From mobile Bing Open Bing in your mobile browser or open the Bing app. Tap the camera icon in or near the search box. Choose the camera, photo library, or file-upload option. Grant camera or photo access if your phone asks for permission. Take or select the image and wait for the results. From the Edge mobile app To start a new search in Edge mobile, tap the address bar and then tap the camera icon above the keyboard. To search a picture displayed on a webpage, press and hold the image and select Search Bing for this image . Free tools Windows power users keep installed One-click scans. No signup required. What Bing Visual Search can find Results depend on the contents of the image and whether Bing can find matching pages online. Common result types include: An exact match is not guaranteed. A private photo, a newly created image, a cropped or heavily edited picture, or an image that search engines have not indexed may produce only visually similar results. Bing may recognize the general subject without finding the original source. Improve the results before uploading Image quality matters. A sharp, well-lit picture usually gives Bing more useful visual information than a dark or blurry one. For better results: Crop out distractions. If you are identifying one item, crop away unrelated people, furniture, or background clutter. Keep the subject visible. Do not crop off the logo, label, distinctive pattern, or important part of the object. Use a higher-resolution copy. A compressed screenshot may hide details that help Bing match the image. Try more than one crop. One search can focus on the entire scene; another can focus on a label or individual object. Check the text separately. If a screenshot contains a product name, address, or error code, a normal text search for the recognized wording may confirm the visual result. For an image that contains several objects, Bing may focus on the most prominent subject rather than the item you care about. Cropping is often more effective than repeatedly submitting the same full image. Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches? Fix camera and permission problems “To use Visual Search, enable the camera in this browser” This message means the browser cannot use the camera. You can avoid the camera entirely by uploading a saved image or pasting an image URL. If you need to take a photo inside Bing, check both browser and operating-system permissions. In Microsoft Edge, open: Settings and more → Settings → Privacy, search, and services → Site permissions → All sites

Select the relevant Bing site and change its Camera permission to allow access. On Windows, also check: Start → Settings → Privacy & security → Camera Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches? Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely. Turn on Camera access and Let desktop apps access your camera . Windows treats browsers such as Edge as desktop apps for this setting. If permission is enabled but the camera still does not work, another application may be using it. A disabled camera, missing driver, antivirus software, or an organization policy can also block access. Close video-call apps, restart the browser, and try the upload option while troubleshooting. The camera icon or Visual Search command is missing Controls are not identical across Bing.com, Edge, the Bing app, and different device types. Try opening Bing Images directly, updating the browser or app, or right-clicking the image in Edge and choosing Visual Search . A missing camera button does not necessarily mean that Visual Search is unavailable. Check results instead of trusting them blindly Bing uses AI to interpret uploaded images, and its interpretation can be wrong. This matters more for images of plants, animals, locations, documents, products, and anything health-related. Use the result as a starting point, then confirm it with reliable evidence: For a product, compare the manufacturer’s specifications and model number. For a plant or animal, check a trusted identification guide or ask a qualified expert. For a location, compare landmarks and the map rather than relying on the generated label. For text, zoom in and verify characters manually; OCR can confuse letters and numbers. For medical images or symptoms, do not use Visual Search as a diagnosis. Likewise, a page returned as using the same image is not automatically the original source. Follow publication dates, image credits, metadata, and reputable archives if source verification matters. Privacy considerations Do not upload confidential material casually. Microsoft says photos provided to Bing may be used to improve Bing image-processing services. Avoid submitting passwords, identity documents, private medical images, unreleased business material, or other sensitive content unless your privacy requirements and organizational policies allow it. Your searches may also be associated with search history. To review it in Bing, select the Bing settings icon in the upper-right corner of Bing.com and choose Search history . From the Search History page, you can turn history off or clear stored activity. If you use a Microsoft account, related activity can also be managed from Microsoft’s Privacy dashboard. Your Personal AI PC Technician Outdated Drivers Are Slowing You Down Is there a Bing Visual Search API? The old Bing Search APIs, including the Bing Visual Search API, were retired on August 11, 2025 . New customers cannot sign up for that API, and existing instances were scheduled for complete decommissioning. Microsoft points developers toward Grounding with Bing Search in Azure AI Agents, but that is a different service and is not a replacement endpoint with the same Visual Search API contract. For ordinary searches, use Bing.com, Edge, or the Bing app. Do not rely on older tutorials that tell you to create a new Bing Visual Search API subscription. Do I need to make Bing my default search engine? No. Microsoft says Visual Search in Edge works even when another search engine is configured as the default. Do I need a webcam to use Bing Visual Search? No. A webcam is needed only for the webcam method. You can drag in an image, upload a file, paste an image, or paste an image URL instead. What’s actually slowing this PC down? Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away. Can Bing Visual Search identify an object from a screenshot? Often, yes. Bing can return similar images, products, pages, or an AI interpretation, but the result may be less useful if the screenshot is blurry, heavily compressed, or contains too much unrelated content. Why did Bing find similar images but not the original source? The image may be private, newly published, edited, cropped, or not indexed. Bing can identify visual similarity without locating the page where the image first appeared. Is Bing Visual Search accurate? It can be useful, but it is not authoritative. Microsoft warns that AI-generated image interpretations can contain mistakes. Confirm important identifications with reliable sources. Can I search an image from a webpage without downloading it? Yes. In desktop Edge, right-click the image and choose Visual Search. In Edge mobile, press and hold the image and select Search Bing for this image. The Bottom Line For the quickest search, open Bing Images and select the camera icon, then upload, paste, drag in, or photograph an image. Edge can search a webpage image directly through its context menu. Crop the picture to its important subject, use a clear copy, and verify anything important because Bing’s visual matches and AI interpretations are clues—not proof.
