Slot type SATA ODD disappears after a while and only rebooting fixes it.

I have Windows 11 fully qualified system with MSI x299 motherboard and a case that only a slot type DVD fits into. There are no eject buttons on slot type which can make it difficult to remove DVD.
The system is set to never sleep. Unaccountably, the ODD disappears after a while. There is no indication of a problem in the event viewer when this happens.
I updated the Matshita UJ167 to latest firmware. Slot type are usually designed for laptops. Could this be the problem?
I set "HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\atapi\Controller0" /f /v EnumDevice1 /t REG_DWORD /d 0x00000001
The power plan shows hard disk to be turned off after 20 minutes, but this is an AHCI/SATA ODD.
I looked at the device manager and there is no option such as "allow device to turn off to save power"
for either the ODD or the parent controller "200 Series PCH SATA controller [AHCI mode]"
I do have other USB-3 BlueRay burners that I sometimes leave connected and other times disconnect. The Matshita is the only SATA ODD.
Is there some resource setting or property I can set to prevent it from disappearing?

Anonymous 2023-06-19T01:57:52+00:00 Thank you for your information. The methods you described at the beginning of the question that have been tried are actually very comprehensive, and there are few more methods to try from the Windows system level. So setting the SATA port to hot swap mode is feasible, and I think you can finally check the problem from the hardware side, which is most likely an ODD hardware compatibility problem. 0 comments No comments

Anonymous 2023-06-17T14:37:46+00:00 There was a suggestion at at MSI forum to set its SATA port in bios to be hot pluggable. I just did that and so far the ODD has not disappeared. However it could take days or even longer to be sure that "hot pluggable" fixes the problem. I suspect there is a hardware problem. I do not have a laptop to try it on but I have used it before with a USB3 to SATA slimline cable and it worked. It was awkward to do that so I mounted it in the case and that is when the problem showed up. The firmware update "fix" was to make it work better with a Macbook. The problem occurred both before and after the firmware update. 0 comments No comments

Anonymous 2023-06-17T06:23:13+00:00 Hi Joseph Stateson, Welcome to Microsoft Community. I noticed that you've tried a number of things, but the problem doesn't seem to be Windows specific. Therefore, I suggest you install the optical drive to other laptops (using SATA connection) to see if the same problem exists. In this way, it can be determined whether the problem of the connection method causes the PC to be restarted after sleep to re-recognize it. Please feel free to let me know if you have any further updates, thank you. Best regards Manson | Microsoft Community Support Specialist 0 comments No comments
